Oh to end up WHOLE someday

People frequently react with a mechanical violence. Programmed by television to respond in certain ways in certain situations, the world goes on. The players are apparently hypnotized by bells, old Everly Brothers songs, the clanking coins, the heaving breasts, the rolling golf ball, the bouncing dice or the blinking lights. They get you hooked to something. Like the workings of an enormous clock, we move at the correct times. The day rotates. With people spinning and the earth quaking, nothing is still. Only our drive toward self-indulgence seems immutable. It seems our violent reactions are usually aroused mainly by our inability to cope with someone else getting what we want. And whatever you are hooked by is judged to be either a “good” or “bad” master. The world is in bondage to itself. It’s a giant chain. If you could only own the number 47 or the letter G, imagine what life would be like. Imagine the power these possessions would provide you. Times of re-evaluation are indispensable and you just have to find the time
to be alone, but can you? And where are those cannons of silence you long to hear? Oh to be hooked on finding someplace where you could reclaim yourself a little…maybe end up whole.
