They never appear to

continual discontent plagues them. There’s
always more to be done – within themselves,

Bible presents a pattern for holy living that
is impossible. Only God could live according
to this pattern. But many try, nevertheless.

Hebrews 11:13 describes the fate of the
saints of old: “These all died in the faith, not
having received the promises.” In the end,
all they had left was their faith. They had
lived in full expectation of seeing the fulfillment
of God’s promises, yet they did not see the fulfillment.

The world will not improve very much. The
efforts of all Christians will culminate in a massive
apostasy at the end of the age when fewer people
than ever will still believe in Christ. The Bible
predicts that conditions in the world will be at
their very worst just before Jesus returns. People
will be scoffing (2 Peter 3:3-4). There will be an
onslaught of brutality, hatred towards goodness,
unholiness, hedonism, greed and haughtiness
(2 Tim. 3:1-4).

Jesus said that if he didn’t return at the appointed
future day, there probably wouldn't be any who still
believed in him (Matt. 24:22). There will be so much
helplessness and hunger for evidence of his existence
that many will be successfully impersonating him.
They will have great success deceiving many because
knowledge concerning his true identity will be very
scarce. As it is, few Christians study their Bibles
anymore, anyway.

The career of the great Apostle Paul ended with
his being beheaded. Prior to this, he was imprisoned.
He wrote of his loneliness and isolation in 2 Tim. 4:9-11
at the end of his life, from a prison cell. It appears that
he was a loser. Just as all of the disciples of Jesus left
him in the dust at the end, Paul was basically alone at
the time when he needed encouragement the most.
He had to get it all directly from God

It is worth remembering that out of all the thousands
of people who escaped from Egypt, only 2 (Caleb and Joshua)
entered the promised land. Perhaps the remnant is always
much smaller than we think and expect. Ultimately, the
remnant are the only winners.
