1. We want to die but cannot. We lie in bed in pain and cannot
do anything about it. The pain never lets up. We can never be
comfortable. There is no hope of receiving any medication that
can kill the pain and there is no expectation of dying anytime soon.
Or we are trapped in a situation that gives us so much terror that we
wish we were dead. We cannot kill ourselves, however.
2. We hate listening to words about Jesus Christ. As soon as his name
is brought up, we feel nauseous. We cannot repent. We cannot pray.
We cannot even for a brief moment consider the concept of a final
judgment after we have died. We cannot even tolerate the thought of
life after death. The mind is completely shut.
